Reining In My Ambitions In My Remodeling My Home

I'm all over the place working on this home. It's way more than I imagined and so I had to rein myself in and commit to doing one area at a time. So I started on my master bedroom and bathroom. This photo above is the way it looked when I purchased the house. So so not my taste. I like neutrals with a touch of drama.

You know after you move in your find all sorts of things you don't like and one of them was this bathroom. The lighting was so poor and I thought it was the bulbs until I realized she put the vanity light fixture turned upwards to make the shades look like tulips maybe not realizing that the light is shining on the ceiling not on the room. Another point for me is when you live alone do you close your bathroom door while doing your business or getting dressed? I don't at least I use to until this house I have to because the bathroom door looks directly out to a window in the bedroom. Shades are closed but it's a bit unnerving to me. The bathroom door is a pocket door and I hate closing it all the time. The room has this weird curved wall to make more room in the closet not sure why but it's not cohesive to me.

So my plan to work with what I got

  1. Get rid of the red (DONE) painted white SW Alabaster
  2. Install new lighting fixture  (DONE) got a new black and brass light fixture

  3. Add shelves to the right of the sink  (DONE) Great for getting the items off the counter top

  4. Paint the vanity black

  5. Decide about that mauve pink counter top
So I've started on the vanity with the brand paint called "Beyond Paint" in black. I decided to make it a bit easier on myself (I'm 74) to just do it in sections. In the photo you can see what I mean.
So it needs at least 2 coats but with the first coat I'm not so sure how I like it. I'll give it it's second coat and make the decision if it's a keeper or a tosser.

One thing for sure that mauve countertop looks awful. I purchased a washable tapestry type of rug for the bathroom in a pink HOPING to tie all the colors together. Here's the rug I got on Amazon. I'll wait until the vanity is finished being painted to decide if the mauve countertop goes or stays. I love the rug though and it's washable.

As soon as I'm finished with the room I'll post a photo so you can let me know what you think.
